Back in the late 70s, a growth model (World3) was commissioned by the Club of Rome, a bunch of capitalistic titans interested to see if economic growth can continue.
They added parameters like population, pollution, resources, etc into the model. They didn't care about the carrying capacity, it was all about economic growth. The models point to an economic collapse around 2040/2050.
I argue that the ecosystem collapse is happening and our insulated world of permagrowth will follow rather quickly. The cat's out of the bag, what are 8+ billion people going to do when crops fail, water is contaminated, and children die of preventable diseases - oh wait, that's happening now.
