Edward, this is such an introspective post and its something I think about a lot. What is my worth as a man? As a human? Is to go make money?

When I used to work in corporate America I met a woman who was raised, along with her older sister, by her Father. He had an injury that prevented him from work so their Mother went out to earn money. He did a good job raising them but she said he had "stay at home Dad rage." He was an old school Portoguese man from the homeland where households were divided. Women stayed home and raised kids and men worked outside the home.

He felt like less of a man for not adhering to the cultural structure that he was brought up in. He loved his family but it sounded like it ate him up inside. I always wondered about that and how society says its OK for women to be SAHM's and not for SAHDs.

I used to think that only Moms can be nurtures because of my German upbringing BUT overtime I've realized that it takes a parent to nurture. That parent can be men, women, straigh and gay couples, whatever. Kids don't care who or what you are, they want you to be there for them when they need you.

A Family is what you make it. It's what works for you, your partner, and kids. Fuck everyone that forces their structure on you. You should never feel inadequate or guilty, you are making the biggest contribution to humanity ever, you are raising the next generation and that, my friend, is one helluva generous sacrifice.
