First off, my condolences on the death of your mother. I’m dealing with my father slipping away due to congestive heart failure. Your article really articulates a lot of similar thoughts that I have as well.

Part of me wonders what kind of a legacy will I leave for my children and other times I think of my aging parents and how all of a sudden I became a parent raising my children and taking care of my parents.

I sense their mortality and it makes me pause for mine is looming. It made me pen this haiku recently:

summer solstice —

my life has peaked

longest night ahead
