The world watched as Russia invaded Ukraine, a sovereign country. NATO and the United States act in unison with crippling sanctions. There were asset seizures as advanced weaponry flowed into Ukraine. Everyone was watching events unfolding and China’s President Xi got what he wanted. Russia was his cat’s paw, a way to see what the world will do if they invaded Taiwan.

I’m a casual observer, a student of The Art of War. I’m a man with a Chinese extended family and Taiwanese friends. I practice Japanese Martial Arts and I grew up in a German household. I am a global citizen and I’m tired of the power games dictators, despots, and democracies play.

Sometimes I’d like to think I can see the big picture. My first thought was when Russia invaded Ukraine that China would move on Taiwan.

What better way to test how the world would react to an invasion without you doing the invading?

It’s no secret that China wants Taiwan to come back into the fold, into their fold. What better way to do this when the world is busy with Russia?

I was wrong but now I know what happened, at least I think I do.

Cat’s paw
