That's a different context, then yeah he was trying to fit into the confines of the x-tian religon. I've seen too many people do that, old friends, etc. As a cult-survivor, I've seen too many people that were lost latch onto something that on the surface seemed better but then you had to 'wash away' the old for a new power structure. People like to follow, it takes emotional strength to lead.
