The saying is that you should date your best friend but that runs the risk of destroying a friendship if it all goes "tits up."

I've often thought about this and pondered on the question "Can men and women truly be friends?" I do believe that this is possible, if and only if, there's a level of maturity in both parties. Sadly, that's not always the case and I've seen good friendships blow up.

Without going down the rabbit hole of polyamory, what's appealing about that relationship style is that there is the requirement for emotional introspection and communication. So in some ways, it's a more mature relationship style.
