Yes you can and it's possible to keep the romance fire burning.

Deep down I believe you still believe in the ideal of romance, I'm just sad that you never experienced a whirlwind romance. I wish that you get to experience that one day with someone special.

My romance with my partner is more nuanced that just bringing flowers, that's a societal expectation of what romance is. Our romance is walking together, foraging mushrooms, finding walnut trees, and small unique gestures that are meaningful to us.

I'm an early riser so in the morning I bring her a cup of coffee when she's in bed. She makes me tasty dumplings. Our romance is spending time together and being thoughtful.

After all what does giving flowers mean? It means he was thinking of you and wanted to make it known to you. Yes, it's signal of intent but its that thoughtfulness that is romance. Holding each other in each other's mind space is true romance. IMHO.
